Captains Uncourageous

Dr. Tony Fauci: “Attacking ME is Attacking Science”
No, Tony, questioning your apparent hypocrisy and absence of transparency is not attacking “science.” You, sir, are not “science.” Your whining reminds me of Harvey Cheyne, Jr. in Rudyard Kipling’s novel, Captain’s Courageous.
An Accepted Category Fallacy
I suspect a contributing factor to the category error Dr. Fauci committed in equating a person (himself) to a process (science) has its ground in our perfunctory view of “science.” We have science fairs. We read Science magazine. And, all the while, we casually mix the categories of science as process, and its result–a little more knowledge about how what we see correlates to reality. The knowledge we gain is not “science.” It is the outcome of science, hence the ancient term, “scientific knowledge.”
