Are You A Seventeen Percenter?
Pay Up Bro! Put Yo Money Where Yo Mouth Is!
I just saw the results of a survey that indicated 17% of the respondents polled opined the OBriceklainiden administration’s spending plans should include even higher taxes than proposed (“Fox News Poll: Growing Number See Biden as Too Liberal,” Fox News, https://www.foxnews.com/official-polls/poll-growing-number-see-biden-too-liberal, May 26, 2021). For those who think our taxes are too low, why not put your money where your mouth is, and grace the U.S. Treasury with a gift. Just in case you do not know where to send your gifts, I include two possibilities, both available at pay.gov for your debit/credit card convenience.
General Donations to the U. S. Government
If you desire to make donations to the government’s general fund, you can do so either by check or money order, payable to the “United States Treasury:”
Gifts to the United States
U.S. Department of Treasury
Reporting and Analysis Branch 2
P.O. Box 1328
Parkersburg, WV 26106-1328
Or, you can make a payment with your handy debit/credit card via “Donations to the U. S. Government” at this link. Donations from bank accounts, PayPal, Amazon accounts, and debit/credit cards are also gladly accepted.
By your own standards, remember that anything less than 15% of your income marks you as a money-grubbing capitalist.
Gifts to Reduce the Public Debt
If your penchant is to reduce the public debt, you can do so via “Gifts to Reduce the Public Debt” at this link. Sadly, gifts to reduce the public debt can only be made electronically by bank account, PayPal, Amazon account, or debit/credit card.
Here’s Your Chance. Step Up!
Oh yeah. I almost forgot to mention, one trillion dollars is one thousand billion. To get things to where it is graspable, think of our twenty-two trillion dollar indebtedness as a $22,000 loan. If you pay one billion dollars on a twenty-two trillion indebtedness, it is the same as paying $1 on your $22,000 loan. Good luck getting it paid off any time soon.
Let’s put it another way. Suppose you have a home mortgage of $220,000. That same one billion dollars would be as though you made a payment of 10 cents on your mortgage.
And, neither of these scenarios account for accumulating interest.
