It’s Tick Season: Ticks Can Transmit Deadly Diseases
Ticks can transfer deadly diseases to humans. Know your ticks, and the human diseases they may transmit:
American Dog Tick: Primary vector for Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever. Can also transmit Tularemia, and tick paralysis.
Blacklegged Deer Tick: Known as an agent of Lyme disease, Rickettsia, deer tick virus, and Powassan virus.
Brown Dog Tick: Vector for Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever, Q Fever, and other other rickettsioses to humans. It is also a vector for various dog diseases.
Groundhog Tick: A primary vector for Powassan virus.
Lone Star Tick: Can transmit Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever, Tularemia, Heartland virus, Bourbon virus, Q fever and tick paralysis, as well as Southern tick-associated rash illness “STARI,” an illness almost identical to Lyme.
Rocky Mountain Wood Tick: primary vector of the Colorado tick fever virus, as well as Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever, Q fever and Tularemia. The saliva of the Rocky Mountain wood tick contains a neurotoxin that can occasionally cause tick paralysis in humans and pets. The toxin takes anywhere from 24-72 hours to dissipate after tick removal.
Luna Tick: Primary vector for COVID-contaminated, uncontrolled, illegal immigration, return of U.S. energy dependency, chain migration, local law enforcement de-emphasis, runaway inflation, private dependency on federal stimulus checks, Americans and allies stranded behind enemy lines, Taliban resurgence, Afghanistan rout, unlawful infringements on the Bill of Rights.
