Soylent Green Is People
Neo-marxists Eat Their Elders
Some may remember the 1973 movie, “Soylent Green.” In the closing scene, Charleton Heston is seen shouting his warning, “Soylent Green is people.” “Soylent Green” is the name of the food ration recently introduced, officially claimed to be sourced from plankton, but is really made from protein extracted from dead human bodies.
The contemporary “cancel culture,” and their penchant for destroying monuments they inconsistently deem objectionable bring Heston’s alarm into a sardonic parallel. Today’s neo-marxists (BLM, Antifa, etc.) simply are doing what marxists do; destroy the past by destroying its imagery to make room for the creation of a new society in their own image–figuratively eating their elders. Of course, we could label them “neo-iconoclasts.” but that would discount their political aim. As one BLM spokesperson said, “If we don’t get what we want, we will burn down society.”
Progressives Take Warning
A recent move by Princeton University was to revoke the name Woodrow Wilson from its public policy school, and one of its residence colleges. Granted this was an internal decision by Princeton’s leadership, yet it demonstrates a concept that no act one may do in the name of advancement atones for the evil one did. In short, there is no such thing as redemption.
Progressives beware! Your protection money advanced to BLM and Antifa to assuage your sense of guilt, or to allay their future ire at transgressions they deem irredeemable, grants you no immunity from the destruction they administer.
One of the supreme ironies in cancelling Woodrow Wilson is that he is often cited as the progenitor among progressives. Further, one wonders if his name will be removed from the list of Princeton’s presidents, as well.
